Hiking
in Tenerife

Walk the island with people who grew up on it

Tenerife is more than beaches and Mount Teide. It's young lava, ancient laurel forest and villages you can only reach on foot.

Our guided hikes in Tenerife cover three very different landscapes: the laurel forest of Anaga Rural Park, a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve; the lava flows of Chinyero, the last volcano to erupt on the island; and the Monte del Agua forest in Teno Rural Park.

No previous experience is needed. We are Canarian guides, born and raised in Tenerife: we tell you about the history, geology and plants of each place as you walk, in small groups. If you want a short, easy walk, start with the Forest of Enigmas or Chinyero.

Which hike should I choose?

Coming with family, or it's your first hike

The Forest of Enigmas is the shortest and easiest: 5.5 km through the laurel forest of Anaga, declared a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve in 2015. Recommended from age 10.

You want to see volcanic Tenerife

On the Chinyero Volcano hike you walk among Canary pines and over solidified lava flows, with Mount Teide and Pico Viejo in the background. It was the last volcano to erupt on the island.

You enjoy walking and want something longer

Erjos – Monte del Agua is 11 km with 400 m of elevation gain: the Erjos ponds, views of Mount Teide and a long section inside one of the most important laurel forests in the Canary Islands. Recommended from age 12.

Why hike with a local guide

Our guides are qualified Técnicos Deportivos (Spanish state-certified sports guides) who have walked these mountains all their lives. They explain what you're looking at — the lava, the Canary pine, the cloud forest — look after the group and the environment, and send you the photos afterwards. To get ready, read our guides to the best hiking routes in Tenerife, group hiking rules and hiking trail signs.
